Snooker talent Liam Pullen impresses in Xi’an Grand Prix

Snooker youngster Liam Pullen is through to his first ranking event quarter-final and says his game is getting stronger and stronger.

The 20-year-old is enjoying an impressive Xi’an Grand Prix in which he beat four-times world champion John Higgins in the qualifying round.

Victory against Daniel Wells on Saturday will secure him a place in the semi-finals and a guaranteed cheque for £34,500. And of course, a step closer to reaching a major final.

Pullen, from Yorkshire, has continued to show his promising potential in Xi’an with wins against Michael Holt and Noppon Saengkam. The latter match he won 5-0.

And that vein of form continued on Friday with another dominant win against Aaron Hill. Hill is another young player making waves in the game after making two 147s this season.

Pullen described his win over Saengkam as his “best win” yet. He also revealed how his game has come on after being relegated from the main tour last season.

The talented youngster managed to swiftly get his place back on the main tour via the summer Q School.

Liam Pullen: ‘I am a stronger player now’

After beating Saengkham, Pullen told World Snooker Tour: “That’s the best win of my career and the best I have played.

“I am a stronger player now than I have been in the past, I have a great team around me.”

Pullen added his giant-killing win over John Higgins gave him huge confidence going into the major China event.

He added: “I thought I had an opportunity because obviously you take the highest seed’s draw, don’t you? You become that seed, so I knew that I had an opportunity.

“But you have to take it. The win against John gave me a lot of confidence and belief in myself. That’s probably what I needed to be fair.”
