Stan Moody talks down ‘Luke Littler of snooker’ reports

Stan Moody has talked down recent reports stating he is the “new Luke Littler of snooker”.

The 19-year-old has been compared to the teenage darts sensation, who has taken the sport by storm and was crowned world champion at the start of the year.

A recent article in The Guardian was partly headlined: “Snooker’s answer to Luke Littler?”

Moody has enjoyed an impressive season so far on the baize reaching the quarter-finals of both the Wuhan Open and the British Open. The talented teenager has also beaten the likes of 2024 world champion Kyren Wilson and other ranking event winners such as Ding Junhui, Ali Carter and Barry Hawkins.

But he told World Snooker Tour he had some way to go before being considered snooker’s version of Luke Littler.

After beating Ali Carter in the Xi’an Grand Prix, he said: “I’ve seen a few of the headlines. I’ve got a long way to go to be a Luke Littler of snooker yet, but I’m on my way.

“I want to be top 32 by the end of the season and go deeper in tournaments. I’m doing alright.”

‘One day I’m sure Moody will be world champion’

Recently 1997 world champion Ken Doherty said he was “sure” Moody was one day going to become world champion despite beating him in a close-fought International Championship qualifier.

Doherty posted on X: “Delighted to win last night (September 30) v (sic) a very talented snooker player Stan Moody. He will have a lot of better days ahead and one day I’m sure will be world champion.”

In February Snooker Chat reported how 12-times ranking title winner and former Masters champion Mark Allen praised Moody during last season’s Welsh Open.

Shaun Murphy has also waxed lyrical over Moody’s talent on the table. He told the OneFourSeven podcast: “Stan has all the ability in the world. And on that ability alone he could be a top player in the game.

“He is one of the quickest learners I have seen. If you are good enough, you are old enough.”
