Si Jiahui is tipped for snooker stardom

Si Jiahui tipped to be next ‘snooker superstar’

Si Jiahui has been tipped to have a mega future in snooker and could be a multiple world champion despite losing the Wuhan Open final.

Si suffered a 10-7 loss to Xiao Guodong in the grand final to deny him a first career ranking title.

The talented 22-year-old enjoyed a stunning run to the semi-finals of the World Championship in 2023. In fact he was just a few frames short of reaching the final – only to be denied by a stunning comeback from Luca Brecel, the eventual winner.

Since then Si Jiahui has enjoyed more snooker success. He reached the final of the German Masters, the semi-finals of the Saudi Arabia Masters and now has made the final of the Wuhan Open. But he is yet to win silverware.

He was favourite to win the Wuhan Open title after reaching the final but failed to reproduce the sensational form that saw him beat Judd Trump in the semi-final. Xiao managed to win the scrappy frames which helped him take control. Si rallied late on but it was too late.

‘He’s getting better and better’

Pundit Alan McManus told his Snooker Breakfast Podcast that Si’s 147 against Trump was a “special” moment and tipped him for stardom.

He said: “I think we are seeing a guy who (could win a lot of trophies). I think Si is capable of joining the ‘class of 92’ club (Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins, Mark Williams).

“Certainly he’s going to win multiple tournaments. It looks to me like he’s getting better and better all the time.”

Snooker fans certainly shared McManus’ prediction on the World Snooker Tour Facebook page.

One fan said: “He absolutely smashed Trump. This guy will be the next world champion. He’s close to the best I’ve seen.”

Another fan said: “This lad is a future world champion, no doubt.”

A third fan added: “This kid is a future superstar, such a talent.”
