Shaun Murphy believes new spotted cueball would be good for snooker

Former world champion Shaun Murphy has repeated his call for a new spotted cueball to be launched in snooker.

The current Masters champion believes introducing a new-look white ball will be a “positive addition” to the sport.

World number 17 Murphy expressed his desire for the change on his YouTube channel.

Murphy told viewers he believes a spotted cueball would add valuable insight for the watching public. He feels it would show how players use spin on their shots.

However in the Ask Me Anything episode, Murphy claimed his idea is far away from reality. He claimed “the powers that be haven’t listened to me yet”.

He said: “We are currently, I think, the only cue sport in the world that doesn’t use a spotted cueball. I think the spotted cueball would be a real positive addition to the game of snooker.

Murphy: Spotted cueball will make snooker better

“I use it a lot in practice and my YouTube videos, so you guys can see the spin I’m applying to the cueball. I think a lot of the skill in snooker is lost on the general public – because they cant see how we are manipulating that cueball around the table.

“They can’t see how we are spinning it unless the cue ball arcs and it looks super fancy.

“I think the game would be appreciated a lot more. The general public would have a much deeper understanding of what we are actually doing to the ball.

“I think it would make the game better but the powers that be haven’t listened to me yet.”
