Hazel Irvine gets top praise from football presenter Laura Woods

Football presenter Laura Woods has praised BBC snooker host Hazel Irvine – calling her a “classy” broadcaster.

Woods, now a leading anchor on pay-to-view platform TNT Sports, says legendary broadcaster Irvine makes TV presenting “look so easy”.

Irvine has been presenting snooker on the BBC since the start of the 21st Century. She has also presented the Olympic Games – both the summer and winter editions – and major golf events on the public service network.

Hazel Irvine is hugely popular among snooker fans across the UK for the quality of her broadcasting skills on the BBC over the past 20 years. So much so, that it could be argued that Irvine herself has a significant role and responsibility within world snooker as we know it today.

Woods, 36, herself is proving to be a huge hit with football fans after previous roles on Sky Sports and on the TalkSport radio station. She also fronts ITV’s coverage of International Women’s football and previously played a major role fronting the American Football coverage.

And it is clear Woods is a big fan of Irvine’s work. She publicly praised her skills during the World Championship final in May 2023. Woods refers to an article which also highlighted Irvine’s broadcasting skills during tense stages of the famous tournament.

She posted on May 1: “Hazel Irvine makes it looks so easy and is so classy with it. Read this article on air this morning and watching her now handle this final and all those emotions perfectly.”

Irvine will be presenting the BBC’s coverage of the Masters, starting January 7. World number 2 Judd Trump is the defending champion having beaten Mark Williams in the 2023 final.
